Legacy Elementary students joined thousands of their peers across Bossier Parish in marking Constitution Day on Wednesday, Sept. 17, with a special delivery aimed at bringing the nation’s founding principles closer to the classroom.
The Republican Women of Bossier distributed nearly 1,700 pocket-sized U.S. Constitution booklets to every third-grade student in the parish. The effort coincides with the grade level’s study of the Constitution, a key component of their social studies curriculum.
At Legacy Elementary, students gathered at 10 a.m. as representatives from the organization spoke about the importance of the Constitution before handing out the booklets. The materials were provided by U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, ensuring that every third grader has a personal copy to study and keep.
Educators said the booklets will help reinforce classroom lessons and encourage students to understand the document that serves as the foundation of American law and government. Constitution Day, observed nationally each year on Sept. 17, commemorates the signing of the historic document in 1787.
The presentation at Legacy offered both a hands-on learning tool and a moment to reflect on the significance of the Constitution in daily life, giving young learners a tangible connection to their studies and a deeper appreciation for the nation’s history.
