The National Weather Service in Shreveport confirmed Wednesday, June 26, that an EF-1 tornado with estimated winds of 88 mph moved through the Plain Dealing area Tuesday evening, leaving behind damage and widespread power outages.
According to the weather service, the storm occurred between 8:40 p.m. and 8:46 p.m. and carved a damage path measuring 4.88 miles long and up to 300 yards wide. The path began west of town near Highway 2, moved southeast across Highway 3 and ended east of Highway 157.
Although no injuries or fatalities were reported, residents spent Wednesday assessing storm damage and cleaning up debris left behind by the severe weather.
Throughout Plain Dealing, fallen tree branches and scattered debris could be seen along streets, in yards and around businesses. The storm also caused significant power outages across the community.
More than 20 hours after the storm moved through the area, much of Plain Dealing’s business district remained without electricity, including Town Hall. Utility crews continued restoration efforts throughout Wednesday as they worked to return power to affected areas.
