Golf: Parish players aim for high finishes in final rounds of state junior tournaments at Southern Trace

Bossier Parish players are in position to post high finishes Friday in the final round of state tournaments at Southern Trace Country Club.

Benton’s Abigail McWilliams and Grace Goodwin both improved on their first-round scores in the 60th Louisiana Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship.

McWilliams, a 2025 Benton High graduate,  shot a 4-over 76 Thursday after a 77 Wednesday and is at 9 over. She moved from fifth to fourth place 

Benton rising junior Grace Goodwin shot a 76, eight strokes better than her first round, and is at 16 over. She moved from a tie for seventh place to solo sixth.

First-round leader Maci Williams of Brusly continued to set the pace. She shot an even-par 72 and is at 1 under, six strokes ahead of Evelyn Artieta of Denham Springs and defending champion Jade Nevis of New Orleans.

Airline rising sophomore Hudson Greene was  in a tie for 16th after the first round of the 68th Boys’ Junior Amateur Championship. He shot a 2-under 70 Thursday and is now in a five-way tie for ninth. 

Greene is at even par for the tournament and only four strokes out of second place. 

Greene’s score tied for second best of the day behind a 68 by Brooks Reid of Shreveport. 

Ivan Popp of Lafayette goes into the final round with a six-stroke lead. He shot a 70 to go with his first-round 64.

Reid and Slayte Guidry of Shreveport are tied for second. Guidry shot a 71. 

James Holtsclaw of Shreveport also shot a 71 and is in fourth at 3 under.
