Doctors and stakeholders from Specialists Hospital Shreveport joined
Hand Construction leaders and Hammes today to break ground on a two-phase expansion
project. The phased construction of a 7,100-square-foot addition and a 1,000-square-foot
renovation will expand the building’s floor plan at 1500 Line Avenue in Shreveport.

The project will include:

  • Expanded sterile processing services
  • A new loading dock and materials management area
  • Two new operating rooms

Renovations will also modernize and reorganize the sterile processing department, enabling
improved surgical throughput and positioning the hospital for continued volume growth.

“This is a unique project with challenges that require an exceptional level of precision,” said
Kyle Hand, Vice President of Construction Services for Hand Construction. “Construction of the
new space will take place just inches away from the existing building, which will remain fully
operational for surgical procedures throughout the process.”

“This expansion and renovation will mean better access for our patients,” said Devin Jenkins,
Chief Executive Officer with Specialists Hospital Shreveport.

“We are proud to partner with Specialists Hospital Shreveport, Hand Construction and Corgan
Architects on this expansion and renovation, helping position the hospital for future growth and
continued delivery of advanced spine and orthopedic care,” said Steve Buckeridge, Senior Vice
President of Hammes Partners.

Shreveport-based Hand Construction was selected to lead the renovation and addition. Hand was
familiar with SHS, having built the original two-story facility and, years later, constructed a third
floor atop the existing building while the hospital maintained daily operations below. “We’re
honored to be selected by Hammes and Specialists Hospital Shreveport for the latest addition,”
said Kyle Hand. Over the last four decades, the company has built and renovated numerous
medical facilities throughout the Shreveport-Bossier area.

Hammes retains ownership of the facility and continues to provide property management
services for Specialists Hospital Shreveport.

The renovation and construction will be executed in two phases. The first phase is expected to be
completed by the end of this year, with the second phase slated for completion in the first quarter
of 2027.
