High school baseball: Airline, Haughton complete 1-5A sweeps

The Airline Vikings and Haughton Bucs completed two-game District 1-5A sweeps Thursday.

Airline defeated Parkway 12-5 at Parkway, and Haughton downed Evangel Christian 8-4 at Evangel.

Elsewhere, Benton defeated Jena 18-4 at Jena.

Benton (24-3-2, 11-0) and Airline (16-0, 9-2) are in first and second place, respectively, in the district standings. They start at two-game series Saturday at Benton at 1. They are followed by Captain Shreve (17-10, 8-5), Natchitoches Central (19-10, 7-4), Haughton (15-12, 6-6), Evangel (13-7, 5-7), Parkway (11-16, 2-9) and Byrd (6-19, 2-10).

At Parkway, Airline scored five runs in the second and seven in the fourth. The Panthers scored four in the bottom of the fourth and one in the seventh.

Airline’s Drake Bellew went 3-for-4 with a double. Zach Kolniak went 2-for-3. Ayden Hawn went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Drew Robinson went 2-for-4 with a double. Jack Henry Smith had three RBI. Bo Carter had two RBI.

Airline starter Silas Endris went four innings for the win. He scattered six hits, struck out three and walked none. Sam Fisher pitched a perfect fifth. Tyson Farrell pitched the final two innings.

Parkway’s Brylan Washington went 2-for-3 with a double. Jax Thomson also had a double.

Parkway starts a two-game series against Natchitoches Central Monday in Natchitoches at 6.

At Evangel, Haughton led 4-3 through five innings then put four on the board in the sixth.

Carson Plant went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Maddox Williams went 2-for-4 with a double.

Russ Barrett had a double. CT Woodard had two RBI.

Ashton Neighbors got the win. He allowed two hits and struck out seven in four innings. Brady Bockhaus got the save. He pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

Haughton is playing two home games Friday. The Bucs face Lakeside at 1 and Jena at 4.

At Jena, Jake Hutchison went 5-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Brody Turnipseed went 4-for-5 with three doubles and three RBI. Hayden Millen went 4-for-4 with a triple and three RBI.

Cole Snell went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Case Jorden went 3-for-5 with a double. Bud Burns and Kannon Greer both went 2-for-4 with one double each. Harrison Miller had three RBI.

Starter Lucas Cox allowed one hit and no earned runs in four innings.

Jena dropped to 15-14.

In a non-district game, Providence Classical Academy fell to Northwood 18-3 at Northwood.

David Mobley had a double. PCA (7-14) visits North Caddo Monday at 6. Northwood improved to 12-14.
