High school baseball: Airline, Parkway pitchers throw no-hitters; Haughton splits doubleheader

Two parish pitchers threw no-hitters as the Parkway Panthers, Airline Vikings and Haughton Bucs picked up victories Thursday.

Jack Henry Smith pitched a no-hitter in Airline’s 4-1 victory over Captain Shreve at Shreve.

Gabe Armond pitched a no-hitter in Parkway’s 12-1, five-inning victory over Loyola College Prep at Loyola.

Both games were part of the North DeSoto tournament.

Haughton split a doubleheader against Ruston at Ruston. The Bucs won the first game 3-1 and lost the second 6-3.

At Captain Shreve, Smith struck out 10 and walked none. He faced 25 batters. Four Gators reached base via hit-by-pitches.

Airline had seven hits. Brock Jordan went 2-for-3 with a double. Jack Horton had a two-RBI single in the top of the seventh to give the Vikings the 4-1 lead.

Airline (1-1) visits Natchitoches Central Friday at 4 p.m. Captain Shreve dropped to 1-1.

At Loyola, Parkway’s Jax Thomson went 2-for-2 with two doubles. Colby Donaldson went 2-for-3.

Abel Thetford, Maddox Cockerham and Trenton Howard had two RBI apiece. Cockerham and Thetford drew three walks each. Dakota Armour drew two.

Parkway (2-0) continues play in the North DeSoto tournament against the host team Friday at 6:30 in Stonewall.  Loyola dropped to 1-1.

At Haughton, the Bucs’ Seth Jorstad went 6 1/3 innings for the win in the first game. He struck out five and walked one. Ashton Neighbors came in for the save.

JP Cormier went 2-for-4. 

Maddox Williams and Seth Breen both went 2-for-3 in the second game. Jorstad went 2-for-4.

The Bucs (2-1) and Bearcats (2-1) play the final game of the series Friday at 6 at Haughton.
