Airline Head Coach Toby Todd has reached a career milestone this season.
Todd won his 500th career game in 26 seasons when the Vikings defeated Byrd on March 24. He is in his 25th season as head coach at Airline beginning in 2002. He was the head coach at Woodlawn in 1994.
Todd was honored in a ceremony after the Vikings’ 5-2 victory over defending non-select Division II state champion North DeSoto, his 503rd, Saturday at Airline.
Elsewhere, Benton completed a District 1-5A sweep with a 13-0 victory over Evangel Christian at Evangel.
Haughton fell to Captain Shreve 16-6 as the teams split the series. In the other 1-5A game, Natchitoches Central completed a sweep of Byrd with a n 11-0 victory.
Benton (21-2-2, 10-0) is first and Airline (14-10, 7-2) second in the 1-5A standings. They are followed by Natchitoches Central (18-8, 7-4), Captain Shreve (16-10, 6-5), Evangel Christian (13-9, 5-5), Haughton (13-12, 4-6), Parkway (9-14, 2-7) and Byrd (6-18, 2-9).
At Airline, Bo Carter went 2-for-3. Jack Henry Smith had a double.
Silas Endris scattered seven hits, struck out four and walked two in 6 1/3 innings.
Airline is scheduled to begin a district series against Parkway Tuesday at Airline at 6.
North DeSoto, which had an eight-game winning streak snapped, dropped to 20-6.
At Evangel, eight Tigers combined for 11 hits. Cole Snell went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the six-inning game. He also walked twice.
Case Jorden went 2-for-3 and drew two walks. Harrison Miller had a double and two RBI.
Hayden Millen had a double. Brandon McCarthy had two RBI.
Bud Burns allowed three hits, struck out six and walked none in five innings. Nathan Sprankle struck out two in the sixth.
At Haughton, Seth Breen went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Carson Plant and CT Woodard both went 2-for-4. Captain Shreve’s Jackson Gaskin went 4-for-5 with five RBI.
Haughton hosts Evangel in the first game of their series Tuesday at 6.
