High school baseball: Benton, Airline, Parkway, Bossier win district games

The Benton Tigers, Airline Vikings, Parkway Panthers and Bossier Bearkats won district games Thursday.

In District 1-5A, Benton completed a two-game sweep of Captain Shreve with a 5-3 victory at Shreve. Airline earned a split against Natchitoches Central with a 4-3 victory at Airline. Parkway also earned a split of its series against Haughton with a 7-2 victory at Parkway.

Defeating champion Benton (17-2-2, 6-0) leads the district. Airline (10-10, 5-2) and Natchitoches Central (16-6, 5-2) are tied for second. They are followed by Evangel Christian (11-7, 3-3), Haughton (12-9, 3-3), Captain Shreve (13-9, 3-4), Byrd (6-14, 2-5) and Parkway (6-12, 1-5).

In District 1-4A, Bossier completed a two-game sweep of Booker T. Washington 15-2 at home.

At Captain Shreve, Benton took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the top of the fourth. Cole Snell’s two-run home run tied the game at 2. Hayden Millen and Harrison Miller followed with back-to-back singles.

The Tigers added one in the sixth. The Gators got within 4-3 with one in the bottom of the inning. Benton answered with one in the seventh.

Shreve had runners at first and second with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Bryson Gates induced a flyout and groundout.

Benton had eight hits. Millen went 2-for-3. Case Jorden went 2-for-4 with a triple. Josh Hutchison had a hit and drew two walks.

Snell scattered six hits, struck out six and walked one in six innings. 

Benton visits Haughton Saturday at 1. 

At Airline, the Vikings trailed 3-2 through five innings then took the lead with two in the sixth.

Drake Bellew led off with a single. Ayden Hawn, running for Bellew, advanced to second on a error on a bunt attempt by Bo Carter. 

Carter advanced to second and Hawn was out at third on a bunt attempt by Leo Heng. Carter scored on a two-base error to tie it. Heng advanced to third and scored the go-ahead run on Zach Kolniak’s two-out single.

The Chiefs got a leadoff single in the seventh. Drew Robinson then got the final three outs on a lineout, fielder’s choice and strikeout.

Airline starter Silas Endris went six innings. He scattered six hits, struck out four and walked two.

Airline faces Byrd Saturday at 1 at Byrd’s LSUS field.

At Parkway, Haughton scored two in the top of the first. The Panthers tied it with two in the third then took the lead for good with one in the fourth.

Brylan Washington pitched a complete game. He scattered seven hits, struck out four and walked two. He also went 2-for-2.

Dallas Loche went 2-for-3. Tristan Sedberry went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBi.

Parkway visits Evangel Saturday at 1.

At Rusheon, Brayden Cunningham had a home run, triple and three RBI. Jorge Taylor went 2-for-2 with two RBI. 

Brayden Wright had two RBI. Pitcher Mike Thomas had a double. He struck out four in the two-inning game.

Bossier improved to 4-7 overall and 2-0 in district.
