The No. 5 seed Benton Tigers fell to No. 20 Sulphur 10-4 in Game 1 of their best-of-3 non-select Division I quarterfinal series Thursday night at Benton.

Game 2 is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. If Benton (33-4) wins, Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at noon.

Sulphur (21-18) got off to a fast start, scoring three runs in the top of the first. The Tors added another run in the third.

Benton rallied and tied it with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Cole Snell tripled with one out and the bases loaded and Jackson Jones followed with another triple.

But Sulphur put six on the board in the sixth. Errors contributed to the go-ahead run. The Tors then had five consecutive singles.

Hayden Millen had two of Benton’s four hits.

Sulphur had eight hits, but the Tigers hurt themselves with six errors. Starter Thomas Allen went 5 1/3 innings. Only two of the runs against him were earned.

Sulphur’s Brodie Depriest went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Kayden Kochell also had two hits.

Sulphur starter Dayton Hicks allowed one hit, struck out five and walked six in 4 1/3 innings.
