High school baseball: Benton, Haughton, Parkway open seasons with victories

The Benton Tigers, Haughton Bucs and Parkway Panthers opened their 2025 seasons with victories Monday.

Benton defeated Winnfield 10-2 at Winnfield, Haughton rallied past Alexandria 6-3 at Northwestern State and Parkway downed Cedar Creek 11-1 in five innings at Parkway.

In other openers, Airline fell to Loyola 9-1 at Loyola, Bossier lost to Montgomery 15-0 at Montgomery and Plain Dealing fell to Homer 15-4 at Homer.

At Winnfield, Benton sophomore Hayden Millen picked up where he left off last year, going 4-for-4 with a triple and three RBI. He also had four stolen bases.

Mason Patterson went 2-for-3. Kade Bryant went 2-for-4. Case Jorden and Kannon Greer had one double each.

Thomas Allen went 4 2/3 innings for the win. He allowed one hit, struck out 12 and walked none. Jax Prewitt struck out three over the final 2 1/3 innings.

Benton, which reached the non-select Division I semifinals last year, is scheduled to visit 2024 select Division IV runner-up Glenbrook Tuesday at six.

At Northwestern State, Haughton scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally for the victory.

Landon Rolland got the win in relief. Seth Jorstad picked up his first career save. Ashton Neighbors threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.

Christian Turner went 2-for-4 with two RBI. JP Cormier and Jorstad both went 2-for-3.

Haughton is scheduled to host Northwood Tuesday at 5.

At Parkway, Colby Donaldson and Gabe Armond both went 2-for-3. Brady Prine had a bases-loaded double in the Panthers’ six-run first inning. Trenton Howard had two RBI.

Abel Thetford allowed just two hits in five innings. He struck out eight and walked only one.

Parkway is scheduled to host Natchitoches Central Friday as part of the North DeSoto tournament.

At Loyola, Airline got only three hits off two Flyers pitchers. Drew Robinson allowed just two hits over the final three innings.

The Vikings are scheduled to visit North DeSoto Friday as part of the North DeSoto tournament.

At Homer, Cade DeMoss and Jamarion Baker had two hits each for Plain Dealing. The Lions are scheduled to visit Bossier Thursday.
