High school baseball: Benton rolls past Many for 2-0 start

The Benton Tigers rolled to their second victory in as many days, defeating Many 12-1 in five innings Tuesday at Benton.

Elsewhere, the Haughton Bucs dropped a 5-1 decision to Northwood at Northwood, and Bossier opened its season with a 19-1 loss to Simsboro at home.

At Benton, Bryson Pierce went 3-for-3 with a double and five RBI to lead the Tigers.

Griffin Sibley went 3-for-4 with a double. Kade Bryant also had a double.

Jackson Jones and Brooks Prewitt combined on a one-hitter. Jones started and went three innings. He struck out seven and walked two.

Prewitt struck out four and walked none in two innings.

Benton (2-0) begins a three-game series against Glenbrook Thursday at 6 p.m. at home.

At Northwood, Haughton’s Parker Presley went 2-for-3. Dalton Meachum had an RBI-single.

The Bucs left nine on base.

Jason Bentzler got the win. He had 10 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

Haughton (1-1) begins a three-game series against Ruston Thursday at 5 at home.
