The Benton boys and girls both won Thursday on Day 2 of the Don Stahl Memorial Tournament hosted by Lakeside.
The Tigers edged defending Texas Class 2A Division I championship Waco Meyer 57-56 in a championship bracket semifinal game.
Benton faces the winner of Friday’s semifinal game between Gibsland-Coleman and Northwood for the championship Saturday at 4:30.
Kam Smith led the Tigers with 19 points.
The Lady Tigers downed Homer 48-38 in a girls consolation quarterfinal game. Benton plays North DeSoto Friday at 3:45 in the semifinals. The winner faces the winner between North DeSoto and Lincoln Prep for the consolation title Saturday at noon.
Bella Wiese led the Lady Tigers with 15 points. Kryshna Bostic had 12 points and nine steals. Lainey Lafitte had nine points and nine rebounds.
In the Battle on the Hardwood Classic, host Parkway defeated Southwood 55-17 and Airline lost to defending select Division I state champion Huntington 63-21.
Huntington plays Southern Lab in battle of defending state champions Friday at 4. That will be followed in the high school gym by Southwood vs. Brusly at 5:30, Captain Shreve vs. Wossman at 7 and Red River vs. Airline at 8:30.
Magnolia School of Excellence faces Delhi at 5:30 and Mansfield takes on JS Clark at 7 in the auxiliary gym.
In non-tournament games, the Plain Dealing girls fell to Simsboro 59-50 and the boys lost to Magnolia School of Excellence 53-44.
Brianna Newton led the Lady Lions with 22 points. Jakayla Douglas added 17.
Jayden Ray paced the Lions with 26 points.
In the Tioga Tournament, Providence Classical Academy defeated Avoyelles Public Charter 38-29.
Lauren Hillman made two 3-pointers and led the Lady Knights (6-2) with 10 points. Caroline Cole added nine.
Adilynn DeLoach and Ella Grace Richardson scored seven each. Alex Thaxton chipped in five.
