It wasn’t a masterpiece, but the Airline Vikings left Farmerville with a 34-19 victory over Union Parish Friday night.

Airline improved to 3-0 with its 17th straight regular-season victory. Union Parish dropped to 0-3. The Farmers’ three opponents have a combined record of 9-0.

Airline led 14-7 at the half and extended that to 28-13 in the second.

The Farmers scored to cut the lead 28-19. Airline stopped a two-point conversion attempt after blocking the kick following Union Parish’s second TD.

Facing a fourth-and-13, Airline scored its final touchdown on a deep pass from Chase Deon Williams to Kenny Darby.

“I thought the first half offensively we were out of sync,” Airline Head Coach Justin Scogin said. “And we were real inconsistent. I think a lot of that was bad playcalling, just inconsistent play. We were just kind of a step behind how we usually are. I take full credit for that. We’ll get back to work this week to fix it all.”

Scogin said his team simply did what it had to do to win.

“I thought the defense was really good all night long,” he said. “They gave up a couple of scores here and there. Maybe a blown assignment here or there or a missed tackle here or there. Overall I think they kind of dominated a real good team.

“I think in the second half we made plays when we needed to. I thought the kids, they did what they had to do when they had to do it I guess you could say. They came up with some big plays and finished the game.”

Williams completed 24-of-38 passes for 294 yards and three touchdowns with one interception.

Darby had another big night with 13 catches for 221 yards and all three TDs.

DJ Allen rushed for 100 yards on 15 carries. Phoenix Padeway gained 36 on seven carries.

Airline returns to District 1-5A play Friday when they visit Evangel Christian. The Eagles (2-1, 2-0) defeated defeated Byrd 43-36 Friday night.
