The Haughton Bucs rolled to a 45-6 victory over the Glenbrook Apaches Friday night at Prescott Field.
Haughton improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2019. Glenbrook dropped to 0-3.
The game didn’t start great for the Bucs. Glenbrook picked off a pass in the end zone on Haughton’s opening drive.
The Bucs forced a punt and quickly drove for their first touchdown. The Apaches almost answered.
Carson Whitehead went up the middle for 52 yards. It looked like he was going to score, but Xaveria McDuffy managed to bring him down at the 1. A penalty moved the ball back and Kyron Turner eventually blocked a field goal attempt.
Haughton led 7-0 after the first quarter. The Bucs quickly scored after the blocked field goal and scored again after recovering a fumble on the kickoff.
Haughton added two more touchdowns for a 35-0 halftime lead. The Bucs scored on their first possession of the second half and a running clock was used the rest of the game.
“I really thought we played well in all three phases again this week,” Haughton Head Coach Matthew Sewell said. “I think the thing that we’ve got to get cleaned up is our penalties.”
Haughton had seven penalties for 110 yards. They overcame several on one touchdown drive.
Haughton had 380 total yards on just 35 plays, an average of 10.27 yards per play.
The Bucs’ first team saw limited action during the second half. Taylor Weathersby completed 10-of-15 passes for 144 yards two touchdowns. He also ran for a TD.
Brandon Craig rushed for 108 yards on 11 carries and scored three TDs. Cade Coleman had 50 on nine. Nolan Simmons had 46 on five.
Ethan Johnson had four catches for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Ethan Osbon kicked six extra points and a field goal. The field goal was Haughton’s first since the 2022 season.
The defense held the Apaches to 101 total yards.
Linebacker Luke Hensley had another good game. He forced fumbles on a sack and kickoff return.
“He was just kind of living in their backfield all night,” Sewell said. “He’s been huge for us this year.”
Haughton opens District 1-5A play at home Friday against Captain Shreve. The Gators (2-1) defeated Northwood 49-28 Friday night.
