High school girls basketball: Parkway, Haughton, Airline continue winning ways

The Parkway Lady Panthers, Haughton Lady Bucs and Airline Lady Vikings all continued their strong starts with victories Monday.

In the City of Lights Tournament in Natchitoches, Parkway defeated Denham Springs 50-18 in a rematch of last season’s non-select Division I championship game, and Haughton downed South Beauregard 43-41.

Airline edged Oak Hill 70-69 in the Peabody tournament in Alexandria.

Savannah Wilson led Parkway (4-0) with 17 points. Dakota Howard added 13. Zara Baker scored seven.

Denham Springs dropped to 3-2.

Skylar Branch and Bella Hammond scored 14 and 12 points, respectively, to lead Haughton (5-0). Kamyra Turner chipped in eight.

The Lady Bucs led 16-10 after the first quarter. The Lady Knights rallied in the second, outscoring Haughton 17-10 for a 27-26 halftime lead.

Haughton limited South Beauregard to four points in the third quarter and led 34-31 going into the fourth.

The Lady Knights hit two of their six 3-pointers in the fourth but the Lady Bucs held them off. Leigh Williamson scored four of her seven points in the quarter.

Addison McDowell led four Airline players in double figures with 22 points. Nia Williams and Ke’zyriah Sykes scored 16 each. Karliyah Woodard added 12.

The Lady Vikings led 40-26 at the half. The Lady Rams cut the lead to 57-47 after three quarters.

Braylee Cedus led Oak Hill (9-2), the select Division V runner-up last season, with 19 points.
