High school girls golf: Benton leads Division I state tournament; McWilliams leads medalist competition

The Benton Lady Tigers have a 12-stroke lead after the rain-delayed first-round of the Ochsner LHSAA Girls’ Division I State Tournament in Youngsville.

Benton’s Abigail McWilliams shot an even-par 74 Tuesday on the 5,679-yard Les Vieux Chenes Golf Club course. She has a two-stroke lead over Walker’s Evelynn Artieta in the medalist competition.

Benton’s Grace Goodwin is in sixth at 79, two strokes behind three golfers tied for third.

Two players comprise a team in girls golf. Benton is at 5-over 153. Academy of Sacred Heart and Barbe are tied for second at 165. Archbishop Hannan is fourth at 166.

Benton will be seeking the first girls golf state title in school history in Wednesday’s 18-hole final round.

McWilliams tees off with the first group at 9 a.m. Goodwin is in the second group at 9:08.

Haughton’s Haylee Crowder is tied for 13th with an 87.
