High school golf: Airline’s Greene one stroke off lead after first round of Division I state tournament; Benton’s Goodwin fourth in girls tournament

Airline’s Hudson Greene is one shot off the lead after the first round of the Division I boys state tournament.

Greene shot a 1-under par 71 Monday on The Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette.

St. Thomas More’s Mason Leblanc and Neville’s Maddox Mowad are tied for the lead.

Greene, the District 1-5A champion, played the front nine in 1 over with three bogeys and two birdies on the par-5 6th and par-3 8th. He was 2 under on the back nine with birdies on the par-4 10th and par-5 11th.

Benton’s Grace Goodwin is fourth after the first round of the Division I girls tournament. She shot a 5-over 78 on the Le Teiomphe Golf & Country Club course. 

Defending champion Maci Williams of Brusly leads at 2 under. Walker’s Evelyn Artieta is second at 1 over and Southside’s Rhyann Marcelissen third at 2 over.

Goodwin was the runner-up last year.

Both tournaments are scheduled to conclude Tuesday.
