High school soccer: Benton girls, Bossier boys advance to quarterfinals

The Benton Lady Tigers and Bossier Bearkats advanced to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs with second-round victories Wednesday.

Benton, the No. 5 seed, defeated No. 12 St. Amant 3-1 in a Division I girls game at Tiger Stadium. The Lady Tigers (21-4) will host No. 13 Northshore (16-6-4). The Lady Panthers upset No. 4 Denham Springs 2-1 in the second round.

Bossier, the No. 8 seed, defeated No. 9 Morgan City 1-0 at Memorial Stadium. The Bearkats will travel to Baton Rouge to play No. 1 and defending state champion University Lab (17-3-2).

At Benton, Baleigh Ware, Emerie Tanner and Eryn Flowers scored one goal apiece. Tanner also had two assists. Payton Beloso had one.

Julie Clifton had two saves.

St. Amant closed its season 14-5-3.

Benton is in the quarterfinals for the second straight year.

At Bossier, Bryan Tuyizere scored the lone goal on a penalty kick. Carlos Guifarro had five saves.

Morgan City finished 12-6-2.

Bossier is in the quarterfinals for the seventh year in a row. The Bearkats will be looking for their fifth straight semifinal berth.

Bossier and University are familiar foes.

Bossier fell to University 3-0 in the Loyola tournament Nov. 22. The Bearkats also lost to the Cubs 3-0 in the semifinals last year.
