High school soccer: Benton girls lead six parish teams bound for playoffs

The Benton Lady Tigers lead six parish teams that qualified for the LHSAA playoffs.

At No. 5 in Division I, Benton (19-4)!is the highest seed among the parish teams.

The Lady Tigers will host No. 28 Ponchatoula in the first round. Benton closed the regular season Monday with a 9-1 District 1-I victory over Haughton.

The Lady Tigers went 4-1 in district play, falling only to champion Byrd. Benton’s other losses were against Archbishop Hannan, Parkview Baptist and Mandeville.

Hannan is the No. 1 seed in Division III. Parkview Baptist is No. 3 in Division III. Mandeville is No. 6 in Division I.

The Bossier boys and Parkway girls will host first-round games.

Bossier (9-7-3), the No. 8 seed, faces No. 25 DeRidder (3-12-3) in Division III. Parkway (11-7-1), the No. 16 seed, plays Lakeshore (5-10-3) in Division II.

The Benton boys, Haughton girls and Bossier girls will be on the road in the first round.

Benton (12-6-3), the No. 24 seed, travels to Gonzalez to face No. 9 East Ascension (12-4-5) in Division I. Haughton (8-8-1), the No. 29 seed, visits No. 24 Denham Springs (15-3) in Division I.

Bossier (5-11), the No. 29 seed, heads to Baton Rouge to take on No. 4 University Lab (11-2-4).

The Airline girls and Parkway boys just missed out on making the playoffs.

Airline (5-11) was No. 33 in the final Division I power rankings, one spot below the cutoff. Parkway (5-6-3) was No. 34 in Division II.
