High school soccer: Bossier edges Benton in boys match; Airline girls win; Benton to face Byrd with girls district lead on the line

Wilson Alvarado scored on a penalty kick with about 15 minutes left in the match to lift the Bossier Bearkats to a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Benton Tigers Monday night at Memorial Stadium.

Bossier improved to 13-5-1 with its fifth straight victory. Benton dropped to 9-9-1.

In a District 1-I boys match, Airline fell to Byrd 3-2 at Byrd. It was the Vikings’ second straight district loss by that score.

Airline dropped to 9-3-3 overall and 2-2 in district. Byrd improved to 10-5-1 and 3-0.

In a District 1-I girls match, Airline defeated Huntington 9-1 at Airline. The Lady Vikings improved to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in district.

Benton (15-2-2, 2-0) visits Byrd (9-3-3, 3-0) in a battle for the District 1-I lead Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Lady Tigers are tied for No. 3 in the Louisiana Soccer Coaches Association Division I poll. The Lady Jackets are No. 5.

In the Division I power rankings, Benton is No. 3 and Byrd No. 8, according to GeauxPreps.com.
