High school softball: Airline, Haughton get wins on final day of Sulphur tournament

The Airline Lady Vikings and Haughton Lady Bucs picked up one victory each in the Sulphur tournament Saturday.

Airline defeated St. Charles Catholic 2-1 and lost to Sulphur 14-1. Haughton defeated St. Louis Catholic 5-2 and lost to Teurlings Catholic 12-8.

Benton fell to Bentonville, Ark., 11-0 in the Calvary Baptist tournament.

At the Sulphur tournament, Airline’s Taylor Smith pitched a one-hitter with 18 strikeouts and six walks against St. Charles Catholic.

Tanesciya Thomas went 2-for-3. Haley Whiteside went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

Ainsley Hollis went 2-for-4. Tatianna Frese had a double.

Abby Hutson went 2-for-2 against Sulphur. Thomas hit a home run.

Airline (10-6) hosts Captain Shreve in a District 1-5A game Tuesday at 6.

Charlee Prothro pitched a three-hitter with six strikeouts and six walks against St. Louis Catholic. She also hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to give Haughton the 5-2 lead.

Clara Shaffer had a triple and Reese Cunningham a double. 

Brianna Benecke went 3-for-3 with a double against Teurlings Catholic. Brooklyn Ezernack had two hits.

Reese Cunningham hit a three-run home run in the second inning. Skylar Hogan hit a solo home run. Shaffer had a double and two RBI.

Haughton (10-11) visits Huntington in a District 1-5A game Tuesday at 6.

Benton (9-13) hosts Cedar Creek Monday at 6.
