High school softball: Benton edges Florien

The Benton Lady Tigers defeated Florien 2-1 Thursday at Florien.

Elsewhere, Airline fell to defending select Division III champion Calvary Baptist 12-2 at Calvary, Haughton lost to Many 8-5 at Haughton, Parkway fell to District 1-1A champion Glenbrook 7-3 at Parkway and Providence Classical Academy dropped a 16-15 decision to North Caddo at PCA.

Plain Dealing defeated District 1-1A opponent Lincoln Prep by forfeit.

At Florien, Bailey Moniz allowed no hits, struck out 10 and walked one in five innings.

The Lady Tigers took a 2-0 lead with a run in the top of the sixth.

Benton had eight hits. Emma Holmes went 2-for-3 with a double. Olivia Livers went 2-for-4.

Benton (15-13) visits North DeSoto Friday at 5:30. Florien dropped to 10-18.

At Airline, Mauriana Holcomb had a double, one of two Lady Vikings’ hits in the five-inning game.

Airline (16-11) hosts Glenbrook Monday at 5. Calvary Baptist improved to 32-1.

At Haughton, the Lady Bucs had 12 hits. Clara Shaffer and Charlee Prothro both went 3-for-4 with one double each. Skylar Hogan went 2-for-4.

Haughton (14-17) visits Glenbrook Friday at 5. Many improved to 17-12.

At Parkway, the Lady Panthers had eight hits. Zoey Horn went 2-for-3. Katie Giovengo went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. 

Parkway (10-15) hosts Zwolle Monday at 5. Glenbrook improved to 21-4.

At PCA, Harper Milner went 5-for-5 with two doubles. Molly McGinty went 5-for-5 with a double and two RBI.

Sofia Guerra went 3-for-5 with two triples and three RBI. Paige Cheney went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Arabelle Castillion went 3-for-5. Hallie Stinson had two RBI. 

PCA (7-8) hosts Lakeview Monday at 5:30. North Caddo improved to 6-9.

Plain Dealing improved to 14-6. The Lady Lions host Huntington Tuesday at 5:30.
