High school track and field: Plain Dealing’s Newton, Douglas qualify for Class 1A state meet

Plain Dealing’s Brianna Newton won the girls shot put in the Region I-A meet Tuesday at Lakeside.

Newton’s distance was 36 feet, 10 inches. Delhi’s Arelia Blanton was second with a 30-2.

Jakayla Douglas finished second in the girls high jump with a height of 4-8. Lakeview’s Kaleah Vaughn won with a 4-10.

Newton also finished third in the discus with a throw of 97-4. Haynesville’s Arieanna Penegar win with a 99-2.

Newton and Douglas qualified for the Class 1A state meet Thursday, May 7, at LSU.
