High school wrestling: Benton wrestlers advance to girls division semifinals in state tournament

Three Benton wrestlers advanced to the semifinals in the girls division on Day 1 of the LHSAA Wrestling State Tournament Friday at the Brookshire Grocery Arena.

Caylee Brammer, Keira Liesch and Audrina Wade all still have a chance to win titles in their respective weight classes when the tournament concludes Saturday.

Brammer won two matches by fall in 50 and 1:48 seconds to reach the semifinals of the 120-pound class. She faces Lynette Elizondo of South Beauregard.

Audrina Wade, who is looking for her second straight title, won two matches by fall in 1:03 and :18 in the 126-pound class. She faces Naomi Cosgrove of Sulphur for a spot in the finals.

Liesch won two matches by fall in :27 and 1:00 in the 138-pound class. She faces Olivia Maxie of Baton Rouge.

Several other parish wrestlers remain alive in the consolation brackets with a chance to finish in the top six and make the awards stand.

In the Division I boys 120-pound class, Airline’s Kaleb Manuel lost to No. 2 seed Michael Barnett of Jesuit in the first round. He then won three matches in the consolation bracket.

Airline’s Bruce Bletz won two matches in the 150-pound class before falling in the quarterfinals. He won his only consolation match to stay alive.

Benton’s Cayden Brammer won two matches in the 157-pound class to reach the quarterfinals before losing. He won his only consolation match.

Parkway’s Christian Gentry won two matches by fall before losing to No. 2 seed Dustin Smith in the 126-pound quarterfinals. He lost his only consolation match.

Airline’s Jackson Larkins lost in the second round of the 126-pound championship bracket. He won two consolation matches before being eliminated.

Four Bossier High wrestlers are still alive In Division II.

Jaylen James made the 144-pound quarterfinals with one victory. He won his only consolation match.

Noah Trejo-Monroy lost in the second round of the 175-pound class then won three consolation matches. Jamez Cobb reached the 190-pound quarterfinals with one victory then won his only consolation match.

Joshua Lugo lost in the first round of the 285-pound class then won two consolation matches.

Josiah Rachel reached the quarterfinals of the 138-pound class before losing in No. 1 seed Jacob Kershaw of North DeSoto. He lost his consolation match.

Parkway’s Ashlyn Coffey (100-pound class) and Haughton’s Darbi Karnowski (120) remain alive in the girls division.

They reached the quarterfinals of their respective classes before falling. Coffey won one match in the championship bracket and two in the consolation bracket.

Karnowski won two in the championship bracket and two in consolation.

Benton’s Avery Teutsch (145) and Valkyrie Ibarra (235) both reached the quarterfinals. They were eliminated in the consolation bracket.
