A 63-year-old Calhoun man died in a mobile home fire Wednesday afternoon.
The Ouachita Parish Fire Department responded to the 1100 block of Luebenia Road in Calhoun around 4 p.m. on September 23, 2026. Unfortunately, the fire claimed a life.
State Fire Marshal investigators determined the fire originated in the center of the home. The home did not have a working smoke alarm. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“Our deepest sympathies are with this man’s family and loved ones as they face this heartbreaking loss,” said State Fire Marshal Chief Chad P. Sonnier. “Tragedies like this are a painful reminder of how quickly a fire can become life-threatening. Having working smoke alarms in your home can provide those critical early seconds needed to recognize the danger, respond, and get to safety.”
Through the SFM’s Operation Save-A-Life program, residents are eligible to receive free smoke alarms along with professional installation to ensure they are working properly.
