The Walmart Neighborhood Market located at 412 W. Bert Kouns Industrial Loop in Shreveport has received the Helen R. Walton Excellence in Community Leadership Award, an honor bestowed upon Walmart stores that exemplify outstanding commitment to community service.

Named for the late American philanthropist and wife of Walmart Inc. founder Sam Walton, the Helen R. Walton Award is an annual program that recognizes facilities that set the standard for being a “facility of the community,” which is accomplished through charitable giving, championing philanthropic causes and volunteering or leading other engagement activities. Facilities nominated for this honor align community service with the company’s mission to help Walmart associates, customers and communities live better. Recipients are recognized by both their peers and their leadership for demonstrating these community champion traits.

“Since we opened our doors in 2016, our customers have been wonderful and supportive. We try to give back by being a good community partner,” said Shreveport Neighborhood Market Store Manager Jaquataye Anderson. “We aim to make a positive difference in the Shreveport community by supporting local nonprofits through donations and volunteerism, and this recognition only strengthens our resolve.”

The Shreveport Walmart Neighborhood Market supports several local causes including food insecurity, healthcare and wildlife conservation. In addition to providing more than $7,000 in grants and volunteer hours to local organizations such as CHRISTUS Foundation, Children’s Miracle Network and Chimp Haven, the Neighborhood Market provides drinks and snacks to local law enforcement throughout the year in appreciation for keeping the Shreveport community safe.

The store also donated 35,744 pounds of food to the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana and organized a volunteer event for its associates to help address the region’s hunger crisis.

“Our strong relationship with Walmart and its associates makes a tremendous difference in our efforts to fight hunger together,” said Martha Marak, executive director of the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana. “And thanks to Walmart’s annual ‘Fight Hunger. Spark Change.’ campaign, we are able to provide even more food and resources for those facing food insecurity here in Northwest Louisiana.”
