The Bossier Parish Police Jury announces that the Smith Road Bridge over Red Chute
Bayou is now open to traffic.
Located approximately 1.6 miles east of U.S. Highway 71 and 3.8 miles west of
Louisiana Highway 527, the bridge reopened this morning after crews removed the final
road-closure signage from Smith Road.
The upgraded bridge features a 40-foot span between piles, replacing the previous 15-
foot wooden span. The improvement is expected to reduce wood drift accumulation,
enhance resilience, and provide greater long-term durability for motorists and nearby
residents.
The reopening of the Smith Road Bridge marks another important investment in Bossier
Parish infrastructure and continued efforts to improve safety, reliability, and connectivity
for the community.
