SporTran hosted a grand opening ceremony Wednesday, May 28, to unveil its newest facility in downtown Shreveport, marking a major step forward in regional public transportation.
The new multi-modal resource center is located in the historic former Sun Furniture building at the corner of Murphy and Texas Streets. Officials and community leaders gathered for the ribbon-cutting event, celebrating the transformation of the iconic structure into a modern hub for transit operations and community engagement.
The facility, now branded as SporTran City, features a state-of-the-art Operational Control Center, an employee training simulator, wellness spaces, retail areas, and a public food court with three vendor stalls.
“Welcome to SporTran City,” said Dinero Washington, CEO of SporTran. “The future of transit in Shreveport. Today is more than just a ribbon cutting—it’s a celebration of vision, community, and movement. SporTran City represents progress. It’s where innovation meets inclusion. Where every route leads not just across the city, but toward opportunity.”
The new hub is designed to bring renewed energy and resources to downtown Shreveport, improving both transit service and accessibility for the surrounding community.
Louis Johnson, Bossier City’s public information officer, attended the event on behalf of Mayor Thomas Chandler. “We feel that SporTran is a very vital part of both communities,” Johnson said. “We are very appreciative of the services it provides for the citizens of Bossier and those who are in need of transportation. With the opening of this hub today, it’s an advancement that benefits both cities, and Bossier City is proud to take part.”
The event concluded with a tour of the facility, showcasing its new technologies and customer amenities. SporTran officials say the opening of this new space reflects their ongoing mission to “move the community forward—together.”
