Women’s college basketball: Williams scores 28 as LSU rolls into the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16

Former Parkway star Mikaylah Williams scored a team-high 28 points as the LSU Tigers advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 with an 101-71 rout of Florida State Monday before 10,329 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

LSU, the No. 3 seed, will face No. 2 North Carolina State in the Spokane 1 Regional semifinals Friday in Spokane, Wash. Tip off will be either 6:30 or 9 p.m. CT.

LSU is in the round of 16 for the third straight year.

Williams was 10-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-3 from 3-point range. She was also 5-of-5 from the free throw line.

LSU forward Aneesah Morrow scored 26 points. She also had 11 rebounds and seven assists. Sa’Myah Smith, who scored 20 points, hit all nine shots she attempted. She also had 12 rebounds and six assists.

Flau’jae Johnson scored 13. Ta’Niya Latson led No. 6 seed Florida State (24-9) with 30 points.

Both teams were strong offensively early. LSU led 31-24 after the first quarter. Williams hit all five of her shots, including two 3s, and scored 12. The Tigers were 14-of-19 from the field.

Williams picked up two fouls in the first quarter and did not play in the second.

The Seminoles rallied and LSU led 50-49 at the half.

The Tigers dominated the third quarter. Williams scored 12 and LSU outscored the Florida State 31-6.
