High school girls basketball: Parkway, Haughton defeat parish opponents in 1-5A games

The Parkway Lady Panthers and Haughton Lady Bucs won District 1-5A games against parish opponents Tuesday night.

Parkway defeated Airline 73-40 at Airline, and Haughton defeated Benton 59-45 at Benton.

In another 1-5A game, Natchitoches Central won 66-61 in overtime.

Parkway (23-4, 5-0) remained in sole possession of first. Haughton (23-3, 4-1) and Huntington (16-10, 4-1) are tied for second. Natchitoches Central (24-3, 4-2) iand Captain Shreve (21-6, 3-2) are tied for fourth.

In a District 1-4A game, Bossier fell to Northwood 62-29 at Northwood.

In a District 1-1A game, Plain Dealing fell to defending non-select Division IV state champ Arcadia 58-29 at Arcadia.

At Airline, Dakota Howard led Parkway with 28 points. Savannah Wilson and Khia Thomas scored 16 and 14, respectively.

Parkway got off to a fast start and led 17-2 after the first quarter. The Lady Panthers really got on a roll in the second quarter and led 43-13 at the half.

Howard scored 18 in the first half, including 13 in the second quarter. 

Natalia Brown added eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Addison McDowell and Ke’Zyriah Sykes led Airline (16-6, 2-4) with 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Parkway hosts Bentin Friday. Airline hosts Calvary Baptist in a non-district game.

At Benton, Shaniya Perkins paced Haughton with 19 points. Kamyra Turner added 14. Skylar Branch had 11 and Leigh Williamson nine.

Haughton led 12-10 after the first quarter and 30-25 at the half. The Lady Bucs got more separation in the third, outscoring the Lady Tigers 16-5. Williamson and Branch both hit 3-pointers in the quarter.

Addison Morris and Taylor Brown led Benton (19-11, 2-4) with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Brown sank three 3-pointers. 

Haughton hosts Evangel Christian Friday.

At Arcadia, Jakayla Douglas led Plain Dealing (12-13, 2-2) with 13 points. Janiya Douglas scored nine, all on 3-pointers.

DeAsia Alexander led Arcadia (22-4, 4-0) with 17.

Plain Dealing visits Jonesboro-Hodge Friday.
