The Bossier Phillies bounced back from a tough Day 1 loss with a 14-1 rout of Greece, N.Y., Saturday morning in the American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C.
Mid-South Regional champion Bossier faces Chesapeake, Va., Sunday at 9 a.m. in its final game in the four-team Stripes pool.
Chesapeake defeated Asheville, N.C, 5-4 Saturday to improve to 2-0. Asheville defeated Bossier 7-6 Friday night.
Bossier and Asheville are now 1-1. Asheville plays Greece Sunday at 6.
If Bossier and Asheville win, there will be a three-way tie for first in the Stripes pool. Only two teams advance to Monday’s semifinals. The first tiebreaker is head-to-head competition between teams. The second is fewest runs allowed overall.
Chesapeake, which defeated Greece 9-2 in its opener, has allowed six runs. Bossier has allowed eight and Asheville 11.
After two scoreless innings against Greece, Bossier scored 11 in the bottom of the third. The Phillies added three in the fourth on a three-run home run by Cole Snell.
Greece scored its lone run in the fifth. The game ended after five because of the run rule.
Bossier sent 15 batters to the plate in the third.
Hudson Brignac had two singles. Easton Sanders, Kade Bryant, Jackson Jones and Brock Laird had singles.
Abel Thetford drew two walks. Jones, Laird, Case Jorden and Snell drew one apiece.
Griffin Sibley reached on an error. Sanders, who had three RBI, made it 10-0 with a sacrifice fly.
Brignac finished 2-for-4. Jones went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Bryant had two RBI.
Starter Tanner Webb allowed three hits, struck out three and walked one in four innings.
Thetford pitched a scoreless fifth.
