The Haughton Bucs closed a tough season on a high note with a 58-34 victory over St. Louis Catholic Friday night in Lake Charles,
Haughton and St. Louis Catholic both finished 2-8.
Brandon Craig capped an outstanding junior season with four touchdowns.
He scored on runs of 63, 80, and 4 yards and on a 51-yard pass from Taylor Weathersby.
Craig rushed for 180 yards on 13 carries and caught three passes for 94 yards.
For the season, he rushed for 1,345 yard on 204 carries and caught 32 passes for 779 yards. He scored 27 touchdowns (19 rushing, eight receiving).
Weathersby, a junior, also had an outstanding game and season. He completed 18-of-26 passes for 319 yards and three touchdowns and scored on a 1-yard run.
For the season, Weathersby completed 183-of-298 passes for 3,012 yards and 27 touchdowns.
Ethan Johnson is another junior who excelled this season. He had nine catches for 145 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown.
For the season, he caught 102 passes for 1,477 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Junior Case Corkern caught a 51-yard touchdown pass. He also scored a two-point conversion on a pass from Weathersby.
Johnson and Craig scored one conversion each and Connor Bencke kicked two extra points.
Senior Payton Harris scored on a 22-yard run.
Natchitoches Central 27, Benton 13: At Benton, a fourth-quarter comeback by the Tigers came up just short.
Benton closed its first season under Head Coach Stephen Dennis 2-8. Natchitoches Central (6-4) is bound for the playoffs.
The Chiefs led 7-0 at the half then scored two touchdowns in the third quarter to go up 21-0. One of those was a 90-yard kickoff return.
Benton scored on a 24-yard pass from Malachi Ziegler to Rydon McCormack. The PAT was blocked. The Tigers then got within eight on a 16-yard touchdown run by Zeigler with 7:22 left.
But Natchitoches Central scored on a 79-yard pass from Owen Smith to Semaj Thomas with 5:27 left.
According to stats kept by the Benton Tigers Sports Network, Zeigler completed 20-of-37 passes for 163 yards. For the season, the junior completed 174-of-302 passes for 2,706 yards and 23 touchdowns.
Pickering 31, Plain Dealing 6: At Plain Dealing, the Lions played well and hung with the Red Devils before falling.
Plain Dealing closed its first season under Head Coach Jerry Byrd Jr. 0-9. Pickering finished 5-5.
The game was the final one for seniors Jonathan Baker-Shepard and Jeremy Fisher.
