High school girls basketball: Haughton, Parkway remain atop 1-5A standings with victories

The Haughton Lady Bucs and Parkway Lady Panthers remained tied for the District 1-5A lead with victories Monday night.

Haughton defeated Evangel Christian 51-10 at Evangel, and Parkway downed Benton 54-23 at Benton.

The Lady Bucs improved to 23-7 overall and 5-1 in district. They visit Captain Shreve Wednesday and close the regular season Friday at home against Huntington.

The Lady Panthers improved to 18-7 and 5-1. They visit Evangel Tuesday and close the regular season Friday at Captain Shreve.

In the other District 1-5A games, Huntington defeated Natchitoches Central 46-42, and Captain Shreve defeated Byrd 66-21.

Airline (12-11, 4-2), Huntington (15-7, 4-2) and Captain Shreve (17-10, 4-2) are tied for third.

In a non-district games, Airline defeated Magnolia School of Excellence 52-13 at Magnolia, Plain Dealing defeated Summerfield 43-37 at Plain Dealing, and Providence Classical Academy fell to Buckeye 50-45 at PCA.

At Evangel, Skylar Branch and Aliyah Delaney led eight Lady Bucs who scored with 11 points each. Kyndal Gladney added 10 and Bella Hammond seven.

At Plain Dealing, Jakayla Douglas scored 27 points to lead the Lady Lions (12-14). Sanaa Lyles added 10. 

Douglas scored 19 in the first half and Plain Dealing trailed 24-22. The Lady Lions went on a 12-3 run in the third and led 34-27. Lyles hit a 3-pointer and scored five in the quarter.

Amiya Williams led Summerfield (9-11) with 22.

Plain Dealing rebounded from a 59-23 District 1-1A loss to Cedar Creek Saturday. The Lady Lions resume district play Tuesday at Lincoln Prep.

At PCA, Lauren Hillman knocked down six 3-pointers and led the Lady Knights (20-14) with 18 points. Emily Stephens hit two 3s and scored 10. Ella Grace Richardson added nine.

Buckeye, the No. 6 team in the select Division II power rankings, improved to 20-6.

PCA closes its season Thursday at Quitman.

At Magnolia, Airline improved to 12-11.
