Instead of gathering to hear from a guest speaker, members of the Bossier City Lions Club rolled up their sleeves Thursday, Feb. 12, choosing service over ceremony during their regular meeting.

Club members assembled roughly 40 goody bags destined for residents of the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home and The Glen. The simple act of packing the bags quickly turned into a meaningful evening of fellowship and gratitude.

Items were carefully selected and placed into each bag, with members taking time to ensure every veteran would receive a thoughtful token of appreciation. Laughter and conversation filled the room as Lions worked side by side, united by a shared mission to serve.

Club leaders said the decision to dedicate the meeting to a hands-on service project reflects the organization’s long-standing commitment to community involvement. While guest speakers often provide insight and education, Thursday’s meeting offered members an opportunity to directly impact the lives of local veterans.

For many Lions, the project carried special meaning. The Northwest Louisiana Veterans Home serves men and women who have dedicated their lives to the country, and The Glen provides additional care and support for residents in need. Members expressed hope that the small gestures would brighten someone’s day and remind veterans that their service is remembered and appreciated.

The Bossier City Lions Club, part of Lions Clubs International, regularly participates in service initiatives throughout the community. From supporting vision programs to assisting local nonprofits, the club’s focus remains centered on meeting needs close to home.

Thursday’s project was a reminder that service does not always require grand gestures — sometimes it begins with a table full of supplies and a room full of willing hands.

As the final bags were sealed and stacked for delivery, members paused to reflect on the purpose behind their work. In choosing to serve rather than sit and listen, the Lions once again demonstrated the heart of their mission: “We Serve.”
