The Benton Tigers, Haughton Bucs and Parkway Panthers won District 1-5A series openers Thursday.
Benton defeated Evangel Christian 10-0 at Benton, Haughton edged Captain Shreve 10-8 at Shreve and Parkway defeated Huntington 15-0 at Parkway.
In the other 1-5A game, Natchitoches Central defeated Byrd 5-3.
In a non-district game, Airline defeated Quitman 10-0 at Airline.
Bossier completed a two-game District 1-4A sweep of Woodlawn with a 13-12 victory at home.
Benton (20-2-2, 9-0) leads 1-5A. Airline (13-10, 7-2) is in second. They are followed by Natchitoches Central (17-8, 6-4), Evangel (13-8, 5-4), Captain Shreve (15-10, 5-5), Haughton (13-11, 4-5), Parkway (8-14, 2-7) and Byrd (6-17, 2-8).
At Benton, six Tigers combined for 13 hits. Jake Hutchison went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI. Brody Turnipseed went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI in the five-inning game.
Slade Stephens and Brandon McCarthy both went 2-for-2. Pitcher Cole Snell went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI. Harrison Miller hit a solo home run. Case Jorden had a double.
Snell allowed three hits, struck out six and walked none.
After a scoreless first inning, Benton put five on the board in the second. Hutchison, Turnipseed and Snell all had doubles in the frame.
The teams are scheduled to complete the series Saturday at Evangel at 1.
At Haughton, the Bucs trailed 6-3 through three innings. Haughton cut the deficit to one with two in the top of the fourth then scored five in the fifth.
The Gators scored two in the bottom of the seventh and had the bases loaded with one out. Ashton Neighbors then struck out the next two batters.
Maddox Williams went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Drake Cooper went 2-for-2 with a double and walked twice. Seth Jorstad went 2-for-4. Troy Fielding had two RBI.
Brady Bockhaus pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief for the win.
The teams are scheduled to complete the series Saturday at 1 at Haughton.
At Airline, starting pitcher Ayden Hawn allowed one hit, struck out two and walked three in the five-inning game.
Brock Jordan went 2-for-3 with a double. Bo Carter had a double and three RBI. Drew Robinson hit an inside-the-park home run to give the Vikings an 8-0 lead in the third.
Airline (13-10) hosts defending non-select Division II state champion North DeSoto Saturday at 1. Airline Head Coach Toby Todd will be going for his 500th career victory in his 38th season.
At Parkway, the Panthers took advantage of four hits and 12 walks in the three-inning game.
Tristan Sedberry hit a three-run home run in the nine-run first inning. Ryan Waits had a double. Blaze Ashley and Jax Thomson had two RBI each.
Brayden Scott didn’t allow a hit or walk with eight strikeouts.
Parkway visits Glenbrook Friday at 6.
At Bossier’s field, Jaylen James went 2-for-2. Mike Thomas hit a two-run home run. Jojo Rachal had a hit and drew two walks.
Bossier (6-7, 4-0) begins a two-game district series against Southwood Tuesday at home at 6.
