Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington has announced that Shelton Mateo Guerrero, a graduating senior at Bossier High School, has been selected to receive an academic scholarship through the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program for the 2025–2026 school year.

Guerrero, a resident of Bossier City, plans to attend Northwestern State University following completion of basic training with the Louisiana Army National Guard. While attending the university, he intends to pursue a degree in Finance and participate in the ROTC program. He is the son of Matthew and Cecilia Guerrero.

The scholarship is funded through the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program, which supports graduating seniors from each parish where the local Sheriff participates in the program.

Recipients are chosen based on academic performance, leadership, and character. Applicants must be permanent residents of Louisiana, enroll as full-time undergraduate students, and attend a college or university within the state. Scholarships are awarded to students in parishes across Louisiana each year.

Sheriff Whittington noted that programs like this help invest in the future of Louisiana by supporting students who demonstrate dedication both in the classroom and in their communities. He also expressed appreciation to the Honorary Members of Bossier Parish whose continued support makes the scholarship possible.
