Calling all rose lovers! The American Rose Center is observing national Rose
Month in June with Sunday Lunch & Learn events. It has been 40 years since President Ronald
Reagan signed a resolution naming the rose our National Floral Emblem. Our month-long series
celebrates “The Awesome Power of Roses.” Three outstanding speakers at Klima Rose Hall at
the American Rose Center are helping to celebrate America’s National Floral emblem. Cost is
$25 per person.

Sunday, June 21 at 12:30 p.m.: It’s Bring a Father to Lunch Day. We have a great program for
him. “SAVING THE RAMBLERS, AN HISTORIC MISSION.” Dallas rosarian Claude Graves will bring
a program on his work preserving more than 300 Rambler rose varieties, in the nurseries at the
American Rose Center. Claude’s story is fascinating; the work is heroic. Rick Eli will join him with
insights into the rest of the story: “Saving the Ramblers is a Heroic Mission!” $25 payment link:

Also on Sunday, June 21 at 3:00 p.m. the American Rose Center will present “THE ART OF A
WOOD COLLECTOR.” Our exhibit opening reception will introduce a new artist to the scene,
James Smith of Jena, Louisiana. He has created amazing sculptures using wood pieces found on
his adventures around the bayous, ponds and rivers of Central Louisiana. What first came to our
attention was the natural beauty of his found wood pieces, worked until they are elegantly
smoothed. We were enchanted when he began to put them together in sculptures, including
the creation of dinosaurs and Louisiana birds that will be on exhibit. The Gardens have been
adding sculptures to the grounds, and the dinosaurs are a fascinating addition to our collection.
The reception is free and open to the public.

Attend both events for a great Sunday afternoon at America’s Rose Gardens.

The American Rose Center, the nation’s largest park featuring roses, is a beautiful garden and a
place of peace and serenity, with collections of trees and shrubs, sculptures and water features.
“America’s Rose Garden” is located at 8877 Jefferson Paige Road in Shreveport, Louisiana, is
open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8:00 a.m. to
12:00 p.m., April 1 through October 31. Admission is $5 per person. There are sometimes
