The Grambling State Tigers suffered their first loss off the season Saturday night, falling to the TCU Horned Frogs 63-7 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Grambling State dropped to 2-1. TCU, a member of the Big 12 Conference, improved to 1-1.
The Tigers stayed close early and trailed 7-0 after the first quarter. After the Horned Frogs went up 21-0 in the second, GSU scored its only touchdown on a 7-yard pass from Reginald Johnson to Byron Eaton Jr. That capped a nine-play, 91-yard drive.
TCU added another touchdown just before the half and led 28-7.
The Horned Frogs added two in the third quarter and three more in the fourth.
Grambling State finished with 210 total yards to 676 for TCU.
Johnson completed 14-of-20 passes for 190 yards with no interceptions. Jordan Bride had four catches for 79 yards. Eaton had three for 59.
The Tigers had only 20 yards rushing.
TCU’s Jaden Craig completed 24-of-31 passes for 321 yards and four touchdowns. Kari Ashley had seven catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Ed Small had five for 105.
Eight Horned Frogs combined for 285 yards rushing. Jeremy Payne had a team-high 79 on nine carries.
Grambling State has an open date next week. The Tigers return to action Sept. 28 against Prairie View A&M in the State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Kickoff is 6 p.m.
