Classrooms across Bossier Parish came back to life as thousands of students returned to school to begin the 2026-27 academic year.

School buses rolled through neighborhoods early Wednesday morning while parents dropped off students eager to reunite with classmates and teachers for the first day of school. The return marked the beginning of another year of learning, growth and opportunity for students throughout the parish.

Students in grades 1-12 officially kicked off the new school year, while kindergarten students are scheduled to begin their first full day of classes on Aug. 13. Prekindergarten students will join them when they report for their first full day on Aug. 20.

Teachers and school staff welcomed students back with decorated hallways, classroom activities and words of encouragement as campuses reopened following summer break.

The start of the school year also brought an increased law enforcement presence around campuses. School Resource Officers and local law enforcement agencies monitored school zones and assisted with traffic to help ensure students arrived safely.

Parents and motorists were reminded to exercise patience during morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times by slowing down in school zones, watching for children and obeying school bus stop laws.

The first day of school signals the beginning of a new chapter for thousands of Bossier Parish students as they prepare for another year of academic achievement, extracurricular activities and personal growth.

Throughout the coming weeks, students will settle into new routines, meet new teachers and classmates, and begin working toward the educational goals that will shape the 2026-27 school year.

Bossier Parish Schools serve thousands of students each year and continue to be recognized among Louisiana’s top-performing public school districts, offering a wide range of academic, career and extracurricular opportunities designed to prepare students for future success.
