Bossier Schools will swing open its doors and welcome back students Monday, February 2, after wintry weather shut down our campuses for a week, and it wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the actions today of so many people from the district and community.
It’s been all hands on deck today at Bossier Schools, where they were literally taking matters into their own hands to make sure students and teachers are able to return to class Monday.
Armed with shovels, and with the help of dozens of volunteers that brought in heavy equipment, school and district leaders worked the entire day at their campuses alongside custodial and maintenance crews to break up and scrape away several inches of slick ice that could lead to slips and falls.
Bus ramps and walkways were of special concern, as were awnings and roofs laden with sharp ice shards that had not yet melted.
The transportation department also stayed busy working to get more than 300 buses cranked and ready to roll. Until yesterday, the hoods and doors were frozen shut and couldn’t be opened.
