Hand Construction proudly participated in the Bossier Parish Schools I3 iCANstruction
Challenge: an innovative student competition that combined creativity, engineering
and community impact in celebration of America’s upcoming 250th birthday.

Students from elementary, middle and high schools across Bossier Parish Schools were
challenged to design and construct large-scale structures made entirely from canned goods. All
materials were generously donated by Brookshire Grocery Company, reinforcing the event’s
mission of giving back while inspiring the next generation of builders.

Each structure was judged on creativity, structural integrity and adherence to the patriotic theme.
Among the panel of judges was Cameron Lennard of Hand Construction who brought industry
expertise and insight to the evaluation process.

“We’re always excited to support initiatives that introduce students to the fundamentals of
construction and design,” said Kyle Hand, VP of Construction from Hand Construction. “Events
like iCANstruction not only spark creativity, but they also show students how their ideas can
come to life in meaningful ways that benefit the community.”

Winning teams were awarded monetary prizes in the form of checks to support their schools,
recognizing their innovation and teamwork.

Following the competition, the winning structures were transported to Shreveport Regional
Airport on April 7 for a day of fun including the students reassembling their creations for public
display, a tour of the airport and lunch.

Travelers passing through the airport now can experience these impressive builds firsthand as
they make their way to departure gates, extending the impact of the students’ work to a broader
audience.

The canned goods used in the competition will ultimately be donated to the Bossier Parish
Sheriff’s Office Operation Blessing, ensuring that the project delivers a lasting benefit to the
community.

future talent in the construction industry through hands-on, community-driven experiences.
