High school baseball: Airline, Benton, Haughton, Bossier win district games

The Airline Vikings, Benton Tigers and Haughton Bucs won District 1-5A games Tuesday.

Airline edged Parkway 4-3 at Airline, Benton defeated Huntington 15-0 at Benton and Haughton downed Evangel Christian 13-5 at Haughton.

In the other 1-5A game, Captain Shreve defeated Byrd 9-2.

Benton (22-3-2, 11-0) continues to lead the district. Airline (15-10, 8-2) is in second followed by Natchitoches Central (18-9, 7-4), Captain Shreve (17-10, 7-5), Haughton (14-12, 5-6), Evangel Christian (13-10, 5-6), Parkway (10-15, 2-8) and Byrd (6-19, 2-10).

Elsewhere, Bossier defeated Southwood 19-0 in a District 1-4A game at home. 

In a non-district game, Providence Classical Academy fell to Simsboro 12-1 at Simsboro.

At Airline, Parkway led 3-2 through 5 1/2 innings. The Vikings tied it with a run in the sixth then won it in the seventh.

Peyton Hughes led off Airline’s seventh with a single. Drew Robinson drew a walk. Hughes and Robinson advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Jack Henry Smith. After an intentional walk, Bo Carter’s sacrifice fly scored Hughes for the win.

Carter scored the tying run in the sixth on a sacrifice bunt by Ayden Hawn.

Airline starter Smith allowed three hits and struck out 10 with no walks in six innings. Robinson sat the Panthers down in order in the seventh.

Parkway starter Ryan Waits allowed two hits, struck out four and walked four in 5 1/3 innings. 

The teams are scheduled to complete the two-game series Thursday at 6 at Parkway. The Panthers visit North Caddo Wednesday at 6.

At Benton, eight Tigers combined for eight hits in the three-inning game. Kannon Greer, Bud Burns and Case Jorden all had three RBI. Cole Snell had a triple. Burns and Beckett Moore had doubles.

Moore allowed one hit and struck out three in two innings.

Benton visits Jena Thursday at 5.

At Haughton, CT Woodard went 4-for-4. Seth Jorstad went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Troy Fielding had two RBI. Brady Bockhaus got the win.

The teams are scheduled to complete the two-game series Thursday at Evangel at 6.

At Bossier’s field, pitcher Mike Thomas had a triple, double and three RBI in the three-inning game. He didn’t allow a hit, struck out three and walked three.

Brayden Wright had three RBI. Jorge Taylor and Jaylen James had two each. 

The Bearkats (7-7, 5-0) and Cowboys (4-13, 3-2) are scheduled to finish the two-game series Thursday at Southwood at 6.

At Simsboro, Lake Lytle had a double for PCA. The Knights (7-13) visit Northwood Thursday at 5. Simsboro improved to 19-6.
