High school baseball: Benton’s Snell named first-team Class 5A All-State

2026 Benton graduate Cole Snell has been named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 5A All-State first team for the second straight year.

Snell was selected at outfielder. He was also a pitcher.

Snell, an LSU Eunice signee, batted 440 with 15 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 48 RBI. 

Snell was recently named the Hitter of the Year on the All-District 1-5A team and the LBCA All-Region I team.

Benton pitcher Bryson Gates, Benton infielder Brody Turnipseed, Airline pitcher Leo Heng, Haughton pitcher and outfielder Seth Jorstad and Haughton infielder Carson Plant were named honorable mention.

Hahnville rising senior Koa Romero was named Outstanding Player. A third baseman and pitcher, Romero batted .433 with 10 home runs and 43 RBI.

Dutchtown’s Chris Schexnaydr was named Coach of the Year. Dutchtown upset No. 1 seed Barbe in the quarterfinals of the non-select Division I playoffs and finished runner-up for the first time in 17 years.
