High school softball: Benton’s Moniz named LSWA first-team Class 5A All-State

Benton rising junior pitcher has been named to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 5A All-State first team for the second year in a row.

Moniz had a 2.572 ERA with 218 strikeouts in 149 2/3 innings.

She was also named the Pitcher of the Year on the All-District 1-5A team.

Benton infielder Olivia Livers, Haughton infielder Brianna Benecke, Haughton outfielder Skylar Hogan, Haughton pitcher and infielder Charles Prothro, Parkway catcher Addison McCall, Airline outfielder Maddie Shortridge and Airline pitcher Taylor Smith were named honorable mention. 

West Monroe rising junior Evie West was named Outstanding Player. She batted .505 with 19 home runs and 60 RBI. She also was 18-4 with a 3.53 ERA.

Pineville’s Allison Frye was named Coach of the Year. Pineville won the non-select Division I championship, its first state title in almost 30 years.
