The Haughton Lady Bucs and Parkway Lady Panthers opened the season with victories Tuesday.
Haughton rallied past Ruston 14-11 at Haughton and Parkway routed North Webster 15-0 at Parkway.
In another opener, Airline fell to defending non-select Division II state champion North DeSoto 10-3 at Airline.
At Haughton, the Lady Bucs trailed 10-2 after 5 1/2 innings. Haughton scored four in the bottom of the sixth to get within four. Ruston added one in the top of the seventh.
The Lady Bucs then scored eight in the bottom of the inning. Skylar Hogan smacked a grand slam home run with two outs to win it.
Brooklyn Ezernack started the seventh-inning rally with a one-out single. Presley Yerby reached on an error. Clara Shaffer walked to load the bases.
Brianna Benecke walked, scoring Ezernack and making it 11-7. Charlee Prothro’s double scored two runs and Benecke advanced to third.
Reese Mayfield’s sacrifice fly made it 11-10 with Prothro advancing to third. Reese Cunningham walked on four pitches and Avery Smith was hit by a pitch.
Hogan followed with her homer to left field.
The teams combined for 27 hits. Haughton had 13.
Yerby went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Ezernack went 3-for-4. Hogan went 3-for-5 with the home run, a double and four RBI. Mayfield went 2-for-3 with a double.
Kallie Sanderlin pitched three innings and Prothro four.
Haughton visits Simsboro Friday at 5.
At Parkway, the Lady Panthers scored three in the first then put 12 on the board in the second.
Macee Thompson struck out seven and walked one in the three-inning game.
The Lady Panthers had 10 hits. Madison Menard went 2-for-3. Izzy Rodriguez had a bases-loaded triple, a double and four RBI. Thompson had a bases-loaded double.
Parkway visits North Caddo Thursday at 5.
At Airline, the Lady Vikings trailed 4-0 after North DeSoto scored three in the top of the third. Airline cut the deficit to one with three in the fourth. But the Lady Griffins scored two in the fifth then added four in the seventh.
The Lady Vikings had two hits. Madalynn Shortridge had a triple and Tatianna Frese had a double.
Airline hosts West Monroe Friday at 5:30.
