High school track and field: Plain Dealing’s Newton runner-up in shot put in 1-1A girls state meet

Plain Dealing sophomore Brianna Newton finished second in the Class 1-1A girls shot put in the Ochsner LHSAA Outdoor Track and Field State Meet Thursday at LSU.

Newton threw 36 feet, 3 inches on her second attempt. Slaughter’s Destiny Clarkston won with 37-8 1/4 on her second attempt. Merryville’s Miranda Williams was third with a 33-10 3/4.

Newton was second for the second consecutive year.

Plain Dealing senior Aaron Reddix was sixth in the boys 400 in 54.00 seconds. Southern University’s Denim Hunt won in 48.29.
