Utility upgrades, mentorship opportunities, and community improvements took center stage during Wednesday’s regular Bossier Parish Police Jury meeting.
Michael Corbin, External Affairs representative for Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), delivered an update on ongoing and upcoming projects aimed at strengthening Bossier Parish’s power grid. Corbin detailed infrastructure improvements such as pole replacements, substation upgrades, and major transmission line rebuilds. He also noted plans awaiting approval for a new Brownlee Road substation and an expansion at the Halton substation—projects expected to enhance reliability for thousands of local customers.
One of the most notable announcements was SWEPCO’s rollout of its “Pay as You Go” billing program, launched September 1. The initiative is designed to help contract workers, fixed-income residents, and customers with past-due balances by offering flexible payments without the burden of deposits or credit checks.
“This program gives customers more control over their energy use and payment schedule, while removing barriers that often keep people from staying connected,” Corbin explained.
In addition to infrastructure and utility updates, the meeting spotlighted community engagement programs. Members of the Bossier Chapter of the Commission for Women, a parish-wide mentoring initiative, visited the Police Jury. The program selects two senior girls from each of the parish’s high schools, offering them opportunities to build leadership and life skills. The students introduced themselves to jurors, including mentors Pam Glorioso (District 9), Juliana Parks (District 5), and Parish Treasurer Stacie Fernandez.
The meeting also included a visual look at parish progress. Jurors viewed two recap videos highlighting infrastructure and recreation projects. The Engineering Department showcased completed work on Forest Grove Lane, the Cane’s Landing Subdivision, the Caplis Sligo Road Bridge, Camp Joy Road, and other areas. Meanwhile, the Parks & Recreation Department presented updates on the walking trail at South Bossier Park and cross-country events hosted there, emphasizing the park’s role in expanding youth athletics and community recreation.
The session reflected a balance of utility advancements, youth mentorship, and public infrastructure improvements—all underscoring Bossier Parish’s continued focus on growth and community well-being.
