Tennis: Top seeds to face off for men’s open singles title in The City Championships

The top two seeds will face off in The City Championships men’s open singles finals Sunday afternoon at the Bossier Tennis Center.

Defending champion Michael Pereira, the Querbes Tennis Center director and No. 1 seed, faces No. 2 Jackson Hinderberger at 3.

Both cruised to victories in the semifinals. Pereira defeated Monroe’s Steven Schwab 6-3, 6-2. Hinderberger defeated Shreveport’s Will Street 6-0.

Hinderberger, 18, was the men’s open runner-up in 2022. A former Shreveport resident, he lives and trains in Lake Worth, Fla., according to tennisrecruiting.com, and is planning to continue his career at Army West Point.

The women’s open singles final is scheduled for 1 p.m. Two-time defending champion and No. 1 seed Francis Altick of Monroe plays the winner of a match between No. 2 seed Marta Sramkova of Minden and Shreveport’s AnneMarie Kimball scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Hinderberger and three-time men’s open singles champion Anthony McMaster of Shreveport play Pereira and Justin Mendez of Shreveport in the men’s open doubles final at 10:30 a.m.

Kimball and RebeccaGrace Lindsay play the winner between Therina Steenkamp and Sramkova and Sydney and Morgan Young in the women’s open doubles final.

Championships in 13 other divisions will also be crowned.

Admission for spectators is free.
