High school girls basketball: Haughton, Parkway, Plain Dealing roll to district wins

The Haughton Lady Bucs, Parkway Lady Panthers and Plain Dealing Lady Lions won district games Tuesday night.

In District 1-5A, Haughton defeated Airline 69-39 at Haughton and Parkway downed Byrd 68-11 at Parkway. 

In the other 1-5A games, Benton fell to Natchitoches Central 46-38 in Natchitoches and Huntington downed Captain Shreve 66-45 at Shreve.

Parkway (21-4, 3-0) and Haughton (23-2, 3-0) are tied for the district lead. They will face off for sole possession of first Friday at Haughton at 6 p.m.

In District 1-1A, Plain Dealing defeated Glenbrook 46-24 at Plain Dealing.

The Lady Lions (12-11, 2-0), defending non-select Division IV state champion Arcadia (19-4, 2-0) and Cedar Creek (20-2, 2-0) are tied for the lead. Plain Dealing hosts Cedar Creek Friday night.

In District 1-4A, Bossier fell to Southwood 70-34.

At Haughton, the Lady Bucs jumped out to a 12-0 lead. They led 17-7 after the first quarter, 34-9 at the half and 49-24 after three quarters.

Skylar Branch led Haughton with 28 points. She and her teammates forced many turnovers and turned them into layups.

Shaniya Perkins scored 16 points and was a force defensively in the lane. Kamyra Turner and Bella Hammond added eight points each.

Addison McDowell and Ke’Zyriah Sykes led Airline (16-4, 2-2) with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lady Vikings visit Huntington Friday.

At Parkway, the Lady Panthers led  31-2 after the first quarter and the running clock kicked in in the second.

Dakota Howard led eight Parkway players who scored with 18 points. She had 12 in the first and six in the second. Savannah Wilson scored all 12 of her points in the first half.

Khia Thomas chipped in 11 points and Mahogany Johnson had nine.

Byrd dropped to 3-19 and 0-3.

At Plain Dealing, Jakayla Douglas poured in 27 points to lead the Lady Lions. She had 12 in the first half and Plain Dealing led 22-19.

Douglas tallied eight more in the third. Brianna Newton scored all seven of her points in the quarter as the Lady Lions pulled away with an 18-0 run.

Glenbrook dropped to 1-11 and 0-2.

At Natchitoches Central, Benton dropped to 18-10 and 0-3. Natchitoches Central improved to 20-3 and 1-2.

At Bossier, the Lady Kats dropped to 7-16 and 0-2. Southwood improved to 18-8 and 2-0.
