Louisiana Downs, the premier horse racing destination in the region since 1974, will kick off its 2025 thoroughbred racing season on May 3. Post time the first race is 2:35 p.m.
Louisiana Downs Horse Racing Ambassador Roxy is already traveling around the area with wallets that could contain up to a $500 mystery wager. To find Roxy, look for clues everyday on Louisiana Downs social media to locate her mystery location to claim your wallet.
On opening day, Louisiana Downs is giving all Club 74 members a $5 free bet. To get your free bet, simply swipe your Club 74 card at the racing promotion kiosks between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. You sign up for a Club 74 card visit our cashier’s cage on the casino floor. You must be 21 or older to get a card.
Opening day will be filled with fun and excitement for the entire family. There will be official Kentucky Derby merchandise alongside the track’s signature swag. Families are encouraged to join in the excitement with a day of fun for all ages. There will be a free Kids Zone on the trackside apron with bounce houses and local Food Trucks featuring some of Shreveport-Bossier’s favorite restaurants.

From our racetrack to our casino, we want our guests to have a great time,” said Louisiana Downs President Kevin Preston. “The opening of our thoroughbred racing season, the Kentucky Dery and everything the racetrack ad the casino has to offer brings us to a new level of fun for the entire family.”
The Louisiana Downs thoroughbred racing season rubs through September 23 with racing conducted on a mostly Monday – Wednesday basis with select Saturday’s. Louisiana Cup Day will be held on August 30. The biggest race of the year Super Derby will be held on September 6.
